Criteria

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA for inclusion in the Festival and SPECIAL Events Database 2017

The Failte Ireland database of Festivals and SPECIAL Events is a bank of key events taking place in the Republic of Ireland throughout 2017.

It is NOT a general entertainments database, NOR a regular 'What's On' database, NOR is it a listing of ALL events. It is intended to gather and collate information on one-time, annual, seasonal or infrequently occurring festivals and special events that are of a QUALITY and SCALE to specifically target and attract overseas and/or non-local visitors to the area they are being staged in.

The information is gathered by Fáilte Ireland for the purpose of promoting these events on the Failte Ireland suite of websites

Eligibility Criteria – Please read carefully

  • The Festival or Special Event should be SPECIAL – providing a great leisure, social, sporting or cultural experience outside of the normal range of everyday or regular choices

  • It should be a one-time, annual, seasonal or infrequently occurring Event.

  • It should be of a QUALITY and SCALE to specifically target and attract overseas and/or non-local visitors to the area it is being staged in.

  • It should have a pre-determined opening and closing date/time. It should typically have a minimum duration of 8 hours (except for certain major sporting, cultural and heritage events).

  • It should be OPEN to the community at large and to all visitors to the area (so not a closed "by invitation only" event).

  • The Festival or Special Event, meeting all other criteria, should also fall within one of the following categories: Culture, Heritage; Literature, Film, Art; Music, Dance, Major Theatre; Sports & Outdoor; Food & Drink; Agriculture; Special interest.

  • Events may ONLY be submitted by the Event Organisers and NOT by any third party.

Events which are NOT ELIGIBLE for inclusion in the Festival and Events Database 2017

  • Any event that does not meet the criteria and requirements on the previous page.

  • Events that are by invitation only… including clan or other invitational gatherings or tours.

  • Small-scale local events with limited capacity to attract national or international visitors to the destination e.g. local community events or sports days aimed at the local communities.

  • All regular Entertainments are ineligible for THIS database including, but not limited to, pub sessions, music sessions, normal concerts and band performances, cinema, puppet shows, regular theatre and regularly occurring sports. In exceptional cases, some of these may be eligible to feature e.g. if they are a major season-long programme geared to attracting visitors e.g. a summer theatre programme.

  • Activities/Adventures that are part of commercial packages e.g. packaged walking breaks, packaged golf breaks, packaged or regular programmes of activities at activity or adventures centres or accommodation. Small-scale add-on events at visitor attractions/galleries such as add-on animation, art exhibitions etc. Small sub-events which form part of much larger events or programmes (which will be strongly profiled on the Failte Ireland suite of websites) e.g. National Heritage Week or Culture Night etc. Art and other exhibitions - unless of significant scale, capable of attracting international and national audiences to the area they are being being staged in.

  • Trade shows, conferences, seminars and small commercial exhibitions

If you are eligible, it is ALSO ESSENTIAL to comply with the following:

Submit via www.failteirelandevents.e

  • The Event Details may only be submitted by the event organiser or a person officially designated to submit the details. Submitting information on a festival or event means accepting the associated terms and conditions, which brings responsibilities.

  • The detailed terms and conditions of participation must be agreed and adhered to, including a STRICT REQUIREMENT that any changes to the festival and special event dates and details are submitted via the ‘Change Request’ function on the homepage of www.failteirelandevents.ie. If an organiser does not submit changes of a material nature, and therefore misinform, they could be subject to legal action by a visitor. Keeping Fáilte Ireland informed through the 'change request' feature on the homepage of this website is the responsibility of event organisers.

  • The Festival or Special Event must, when submitted, have an online presence that is professionally presented (a website or blog or Facebook site) and is always kept up-to-date with the most current available information. If the full details of the 2017 event are not known, the website should at least advise that "Details of the 2017 event will be announced on this website on [date]". Websites that don't feature or make reference to their 2017 event will not be included.

  • The event's occurrence must be CERTAIN (not a provisional event or conditional). The information submitted to the database must be concise, but still highly informative. To be considered, submissions must be well written and carefully checked for spellings and grammar. The entry should be accompanied by high- quality photo images and, if possible, video footage which comply with the photo and video submission criteria.

IMPORTANT: The event must be submitted in advance of any stated deadlines or a minimum of 30 days ahead of the event's start date. Events submitted closer in will not be considered for inclusion. Events are promoted in the international marketplace and intending visitors require information well in advance of travelling to Ireland to help them plan their visits.

If you are NOT Eligible, please note: The eligibility above relates ONLY to the Festivals and SPECIAL Events Database 2017. The Failte Ireland suite of websites accommodates other listings and promotes Visitor Attractions, Activity Centres, Arts and Entertainment Venues, Leisure Breaks and more. Visit www.FailteIreland.ie to see if and how you can feature in other listings that are appropriate to you.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA for inclusion in the Visit Dublin ‘What’s On’ listings 2017

The Visit Dublin ‘What’s On’ listings supplement the events listings displayed on the site to meet the needs of the core markets of Great Britain, US, France and Germany.  It is intended to both motivate those contemplating a visit to Dublin, and facilitate those who are already here by addressing the question of ‘What’s on tonight?’ for the target segments of Social Energisers and Culturally Curious. By targeting these segments, Dublin also reaches several other segments. Therefore content is being aligned to appeal to these segments, without dismissing the needs of the broader audience.

It is NOT a general entertainment listing, NOR is it a listing of ALL events.

The information is gathered by Fáilte Ireland for the purpose of promoting these events on VisitDublin.com, through digital screens in our Tourist Information Office in Suffolk Street as well as, selectively, through other forms of media including online, print, radio and television.
